2010 heartland hall of fame inductee

This year we are proud to induct our third member into the Heartland Hall of Fame, following Mr. Sherer & 2009 inductee, Von McLane. The 2010 Inductee into the Heartland Hall of Fame is Coach John Alonzo.  His impact on his player’s lives as human beings, competitors & future female leaders was at the forefront. He taught them to believe in themselves & to be humble just like him. He taught the girls to play hard & leave it all on the field. He taught them to respect themselves, each other & to respect the game. He taught these virtues by example and through the game of softball. He continues this today, still coaching softball @ United Township High School. Coach is still giving back to the game & is still giving to his players, past & present. He continues to teach by example. Hearing these things through my voice doesn’t do Coach Alonzo justice. So today we have three people who are going to induct him & honor him with their voices. Coach Gil Terronez was an assistant to John with Heartland and still is today as his Head Junior Varsity Coach @ UT. Gil cannot be here today as he is in Los Angeles on a family vacation, but wanted to have a former players read his speech to John. So please welcome – with some words of their own as well, former Heartland players, Ms. Laurel Darren & Shaunte Vallejo Meff.
